Pat Gillick, who led three teams to World Series titles in 27 years as a General Manager, has been elected to Major League Baseball's Hall of Fame by the Veterans Committee.

Gillick was the general manager of the Toronto Blue Jays, Baltimore Orioles, Seattle Mariners and Philadelphia Phillies, winning two World Series crowns with the Blue Jays and one with the Phillies. In results released Monday, the 73-year-old received 13 of 16 Veteran Committee votes, or one vote more than the 75-percent needed. Former New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner, who died earlier this year, and 93-year-old former players' union head Marvin Miller both missed election.

This was the first vote by the reorganized Veterans Committee, which considers players and non-players from the so-called “expansion era” – 1973 to present – not elected by the Baseball Writers' Association of America.

None of the players on the ballot, which included Tommy John, Steve Garvey, Vida Blue and Dave Concepcion, came close to being elected.

The 73-year-old Gillick, now a senior advisor to the Phillies, will be inducted into the Hall of Fame in ceremonies July 24 in Cooperstown, New York. He will be joined by any players voted in by the Baseball Writers next month.
