It's Not Just An Image

So I see a lot of grown men having tantrums over their BDSM images being removed and it makes me so fucking cranky, do you want to know why? It’s not so much the fact that you don’t own any of those porn images and therefore the website has within the T&Cs a right to remove them…no, it’s that you jerks fail to see the bigger picture here.

This morning when I opened my other FBook national news showed me the heading of ‘Troubling rise of rough sex defense lin/ked to vio/lent BDSM style porn”. You see this topic has continually been brought to light by the deaths of innocent women, and this time it was British backpacker Grace Millane who was strangled to death by Jesse Kempson. In court, Kempson tried to claim it was a sex game gone wrong; that Ms Millane died during rough sex. The details are disturbing and thankfully Kempson was found guilty, but this is not always the case and reports are showing that when a man kills a woman, the rough sex defense is becoming more common, with 45% gaining a lighter sentence claiming it was just ‘sex gone wrong’.

What has this to do with this website removing strong BDSM content, you ask? Because violent porn, particularly involving strangling (choking in BDSM terms), slapping and rough disrespectful treatment has become sadly integrated into regular pornography, has normalized what was once an unpopular niche, and this increase in violent porn consumption has led to an increase in violence against women.

Acceptance has come at a high cost to women. ‘We Can’t Consent To This’ have claimed at least 18 women have died in the past 5 years during so-called consensual sexual violence; and are rightly concerned that this commonplace within the pornographic industry is a huge concern for women’s safety. “Now it seems it’s almost assumed that this is a standard thing you would expect from a sexual partner (….) it is a really serious form of abuse”.

Now, let’s not downplay this in the way I have heard some men here do in pointing out innocent kinks and fluffy handcuffs. Let’s stop and start being responsible as consumers and be ethical about our porn consumption; because in the end the desire to view this content pushes up the rush to create more extreme pornography propelling the problem.

So before you complain again about how your profile no longer contains the image of the girl with mascara and tears running down her cheeks as she gags on an oversized cock that you wish was yours, considered the bigger picture and ask yourself, “do I want my daughter to be introduced into adulthood in a world whereby she will experience this new type of ‘normal’ and be encouraged to think of it as pleasure?”
